2024 Canadian Senior Championships

National Competition Participation Criteria Summary


For Athletes:


1. Must have a 2024/2025 OWA Membership
2. Need to be registered in the CCES National Athlete Pool (NAP) and meet all requirements, including the Athlete Agreement, by April 28, 2024.
3. Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada.
4. Must be a permanent resident of Ontario as defined by the OWA membership policy.
5. Must be at least 15 years old in 2024.

6. Met all qualification standards.


For Coaches:


1. Must be affiliated and in good standing with their PSO.
2. Should not be under any suspension by WCH, IWF, or a CADP signatory.
Need to have NCCP Competition Development level certification or equivalent; provisional certification is acceptable if being evaluated for full certification during the competition.
3. Development coaches require prior written consent from WCH and must operate under the supervision of a fully certified coach.

 

Additional Requirements for Coaches, Team Leaders, and Referees:
Complete Respect in Sport certification by April 28, 2024.
Undergo an Enhanced Background Check in line with WCH Screening Policy by April 28, 2024.

2024 Ontario Masters Training Camp

LOCATION - Crossfit Connection, 845 Harrington Court, Burlington, ON

DESCRIPTION
 

The Ontario Weightlifting Association in conjunction with Michael D’Angelo from Burlington Barbell Club are happy to announce the 2nd iteration of the Ontario Masters Training Camp in preparation for the Masters Canadian Weightlifting Championships, to be held July 12th-14th. This will be the 1st time Ontario is hosting a Training Camp created to improve the performance of Master Weightlifting athletes across Ontario

This training camp is for athletes who  plan to compete at the Canadian Masters Championships and want a training environment with fellow Masters Athletes. Preliminary schedule will be created by the camp director and the attending coaches. Once a schedule and training plan have been created an information package will be sent to registered athletes and coaches.

 

Note: Athletes looking to participate at this camp must have qualified for Canadian Masters Championships. Please refer to the standards on the document below, from Weightlifting Halterophile Canada Masters Page.

 

2024 Canadian Masters Championships Qualifying Totals


THE VENUE
Crossfit Connection is located in Burlington, and is home to Burlington Barbell Club led by Coach Michael D'Angelo. The venue is located in the industrial section of Burlington, with the ability to host several types of group classes, such as Crossfit, Olympic Weightlifting and Powerlifting. This location serves as an ideal space to host a competition of this nature. There are several places that athletes can get food and coffee that require a short amount of driving to get to.

NCCP Competition Introduction Practical Evaluation

LOCATION - CanAM Strength and Conditioning, 150 Colonnade Road South, Nepean, ON, Canada

 

The OWA is organizing for its members, Competition Introduction Practical Evaluation at CanAM Barbell Club in Ottawa, ON. This practical evaluation is an opportunity to become fully certified as a Competition Introduction Coach.

The requirements prior to becoming eligible for evaluation are below:


Multi-sport
Three (3) multi-sport modules, which are available in all provinces and territories:

  •  Make Ethical Decisions,

  • Planning a Practice

  • Nutrition


Weightlifting
The completion of the “Weightlifting Competition – Introduction workshop”.

In addition to the above, the coaches must provide to the facilitator the following documents:

Weightlifting Evaluation

1. Submission of a portfolio:

  • Emergency Action Plan

  • Four (4) week Olympic weightlifting competition program (goals, weekly program structure, acute program variables)

  • Competition athlete plan (athlete profile, goals, statement of coach intent, warm-up)


2. Practical Evaluation – evaluation of coaching competency in a competition and debrief​

Date: July 6th, 2024

 

The facilitators for this course will be Dan Robataille.

 

Cost: 120$

Deadline for document submission:  June 22nd, 2024

2023/2024 OWA Club Challenge #4

LOCATION - ALL PARTICIPATING CLUBS

 

Registration Opens: May 25th, 2024

Registration Deadline: June 30th, 2024

DESCRIPTION

Club Challenges are small, club competitions that are held across the province during a 3-day period over a weekend where clubs compete against each other in a point-based system. This occurs every 3 months with a total of 4 club challenges per season. The top 10 athletes per team are awarded points based on their ranking in the challenge. This is the final club challenge of the 2023/2024 season, with cash prizes available for multiple categories:

  • 1st prize - Occurs every Club Challenge, where the winning club receives 60% portion of the money in the pot. 

  • Final prize - Determined at the end of the season, the top 3 clubs share the remaining 40% of the pot which has accumulated over the 4 challenges!

  • Best Club - Awarded to the club that has improved their ranking over the entire year.

  • Best Lifter - Goes to a specific lifter that has improved their performance over the course of the challenge.

2024 Summertime Lift Off

Burlington Barbell Club is excited to host another event to close out the spring, welcome summer, and start the new 2024/2025 season. It is the first open Ontario competition in the summer after the Canadian Championships, and serves as a qualifier for the upcoming Ontario Senior Championships in November.

2024 Summerfest

DESCRIPTION​

Summer fest is an open competition set in the end of August for athletes to prepare for upcoming fall competitions, and is in the qualifying period of Ontario Senior Championships and approximate qualifying period for Senior Canadian Championships.

Summer fest has been selected by WCH as an international qualifying event.

VENUE

Toronto Weightlifting is based out of the elite athletic performance centre, Kanama High Performance, which is located on Cosentino drive in Scarborough. Its located in the industrial district, with several restaurants on Progress and Midland Avenue, a short drive away.

DESCRIPTION

Variety Village is excited to host the 1st elite competition of the 2024/2025 season, which is the Ontario Classic. This event is within the qualifying period of Senior Provincial Championships, Winterlift towards the end of March, and in the approximate qualifying period of Senior and Junior National Championships.

THE VENUE
Variety Village is a large community and sports recreation centre located on Danforth Avenue in Scarborough. It has previously hosted large weightlifting competitions for national athletes, such as the recent Canadian Senior Championships. Its large indoor track allows for multiple athletes to warm up and compete at the same time.
