2024 Northern Ontario Open

DESCRIPTION
The 2024 Northern Ontario Open will be the first competition hosted by the Norsemen and Valkyries Club in the 2024/2025 season. The contest will take place on Saturday, May 04 at the YMCA of North Bay. The meet is open to athletes of all ages and the date falls within the qualifying period for the Canadian Junior Championship.


THE VENUE
The YMCA facility is positioned in the heart of the city on Chippewa Street. The contest will be staged in the Y’s newly re-furbished J.S. Redpath Gymnasium. The warm-up area will be in the Norsemen and Valkyries training room. The room has ample lifting surfaces, bars, and plates and is situated close to the main platform. There is a boutique lunch counter (the WEE Café ) located near the main entrance of the Y. The café features great sandwiches and baked goods and it will be operating for the full day of the contest.

NCCP Competition Development Course

LOCATION - 35 Chauncey Avenue, Etobicoke, ON, Canada

Course Duration: May 11th-12th, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm (7 hours per day)

​

The National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Competition Development course is designed to equip coaches with advanced skills and knowledge to excel in a competitive sporting environment. This comprehensive course goes beyond the basics, focusing on high-performance coaching techniques, athlete development, and strategic planning. Participants will engage in in-depth learning about coaching ethics, program management, and performance analysis, tailored to meet the needs of athletes competing at provincial, national, or international levels. Through a blend of theoretical instruction and practical application, coaches will learn to develop more effective training programs, enhance athlete performance, and foster a positive and ethical sporting environment. The course is ideal for coaches committed to advancing their career in coaching and aiming to make a significant impact on their athletes' competitive success.

In-Person Training:

  • NCCP Comp Development In-Person costs $575, which is reduced to $275 after funding, covering 48 hours of training.

  • Funding details: Up to $300 per individual per fiscal year can be utilized to cover up to 60% of eligible course registration fees and up to 90% for the certification process (including portfolio and evaluation).

Evaluation:

  • An evaluation fee of $200 is reduced to $20 after funding if the claim is made in a different fiscal year from the in-person claim, taking up 3 hours.

Online Evaluations and Training:

  • Courses include Leading Drug-free Sport, Managing Conflict, and Make Ethical Decisions.

Multisport NCCP Modules:

  • These modules cover various essential topics like Performance Planning, Advanced Practice Planning, Coaching and Leading Effectively, and others, each with its own cost and time commitment.

Additional Details:

  • The total time and cost are structured to provide a comprehensive learning experience, encompassing both theoretical knowledge and practical application.

  • The funding options available significantly reduce the financial burden on coaches, encouraging professional development in the coaching community.

This course structure ensures that coaches receive a well-rounded education, equipping them with the necessary skills to excel in competitive environments and progress towards full certification in the NCCP framework.

2024 Canadian Senior Championships

LOCATION - 1650 Grafton St, Halifax, Halifax, NS, Canada

National Competition Participation Criteria Summary


For Athletes:


1. Must have a 2024/2025 OWA Membership
2. Need to be registered in the CCES National Athlete Pool (NAP) and meet all requirements, including the Athlete Agreement, by April 28, 2024.
3. Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada.
4. Must be a permanent resident of Ontario as defined by the OWA membership policy.
5. Must be at least 15 years old in 2024.

6. Met all qualification standards.


For Coaches:


1. Must be affiliated and in good standing with their PSO.
2. Should not be under any suspension by WCH, IWF, or a CADP signatory.
Need to have NCCP Competition Development level certification or equivalent; provisional certification is acceptable if being evaluated for full certification during the competition.
3. Development coaches require prior written consent from WCH and must operate under the supervision of a fully certified coach.

 

Additional Requirements for Coaches, Team Leaders, and Referees:
Complete Respect in Sport certification by April 28, 2024.
Undergo an Enhanced Background Check in line with WCH Screening Policy by April 28, 2024.
