DESCRIPTION
 

These competitions are open to male and female athletes of all age groups. The main focus of these competitions is to develop athletes and increase the capacity of clubs to hold larger competitions. They provide opportunities for all lifters to compete regularly, track their progress, and compare their performance within their age group and weight category.

​

Competitions will be hosted by participating clubs, either independently or in collaboration with other clubs. Results must be submitted to results@onweightlifting.ca by the Sunday of the competition weekend.

The Ontario Weightlifting Association (OWA) is hosting an NCCP Competition Introduction – Analyse Performance course from September 19 -20, 2026, at Built Strength and Conditioning in Owen Sound. This program is designed for coaches who aim to prepare athletes for accredited weightlifting competitions.

The 2026 Ontario Senior Championships will bring together many of the province’s strongest and most accomplished weightlifters for an exciting weekend of competition.

Qualified athletes from clubs across Ontario will take the platform to compete for provincial titles, personal bests and a place among the province’s best. Expect big lifts, close battles and an energetic atmosphere as Ontario’s senior athletes showcase the strength, skill and determination required to compete at the provincial level.

The competition will be held at Variety Village in Scarborough, a well-known inclusive sport and recreation facility with a long history of hosting provincial and national-level weightlifting events. With excellent competition amenities, accessible facilities, ample parking and convenient access from Highway 401, Variety Village provides an outstanding environment for athletes, coaches and spectators.

DESCRIPTION
 

The 2026 Ray Hamilton - Bob LeClair Classic continues one of Ontario weightlifting’s longest-running competition traditions. First staged in 2001, the event is named in honour of Ray Hamilton and Bob LeClair, two pioneers who helped establish and grow the sport of weightlifting in Northern Ontario.

For more than two decades, the competition has brought together athletes and clubs from across Northeastern Ontario and Northwestern Quebec. With its strong regional roots and long history, the Ray Hamilton - Bob LeClair Classic offers athletes of all levels an opportunity to take the platform, chase personal bests and be part of a competition that celebrates the weightlifting community in Northern Ontario.

LOCATION

​

The competition will be held at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario in North Bay. The YMCA is a well-established community sport and recreation facility featuring a large multi-purpose gymnasium along with extensive fitness and aquatic facilities.

Known as the “Gateway to the North,” North Bay is situated between Lake Nipissing and Trout Lake and combines the amenities of a regional centre with the scenery and outdoor character of Northern Ontario. Athletes and families visiting for the competition can explore the city’s Lake Nipissing waterfront, parks and trails, local restaurants and attractions while enjoying a weekend of weightlifting in one of Northern Ontario’s major sporting communities.
