EVENT DESCRIPTION

The Variety Village Open is a provincial-level competition bringing together athletes from across Ontario. Taking place on January 17, 2026, this event provides an important early-season opportunity for developing lifters to test their progress in a high-quality competition environment. The Variety Village Open is also an approved qualifier for several major international events, including the Pan American Junior Championships, the IWF World Cup, the IWF World Junior Championships, and the Pan American Championships, as outlined in the WCH qualification memo available on the OWA website.

EVENT DESCRIPTION

The 2026 Ontario Winter Games in Orillia will bring together nearly 2,500 of Ontario’s top youth athletes for two action-packed weekends of competition across 17 sports. Supported by the Ontario government through the Games Ontario program, the event provides a high-performance, multi-sport environment where athletes can showcase their skills, experience the excitement of a major Games, and represent their communities on a provincial stage. With strong local partnerships, dedicated volunteers, and the enthusiastic support of Desjardins as the presenting sponsor, the Orillia 2026 Games aim to deliver an inspiring and memorable experience for athletes, families, and spectators.

LOCATION

Set throughout the City of Orillia and Simcoe County, the Games will utilize a range of premier venues including the Orillia Recreation Centre, West Orillia Sports Complex, Mount St. Louis Moonstone, Hardwood Ski and Bike, Horseshoe Valley Resort, and additional community facilities. These locations offer high-quality sport infrastructure while placing athletes and visitors in the heart of a region known for its hospitality, vibrant local businesses, and strong volunteer spirit. Together, these venues provide an ideal backdrop for competition and an engaging experience for everyone attending the 2026 Ontario Winter Games.​​​
