2025 The Ray Hamilton - Bob Leclair Open

LOCATION - J.S. Redpath Gym - YMCA of North Bay, 186 Chippewa Street West, North Bay, ON, Canada

Registration Deadline: October 3, 2025

Registration Price: $90

Note: This event is subject to doping control.

Note: The qualification period for the Ontario Senior Championships has been extended to include the Ray Hamilton – Bob Leclair Open competition, with the understanding that the Ontario Weightlifting Association (OWA) and the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) discourage frequent maximal efforts. Qualifying events should be strategically integrated into an athlete’s periodized training plan, and this extension is intended specifically for athletes who do not need to perform at maximal effort in order to qualify.

EVENT DESCRIPTION

One of the longest-running weightlifting contests in Ontario, the Ray Hamilton and Bob Leclair Classic dates back to its inception in 2005. The event celebrates two of northern Ontario’s pioneers of Olympic weightlifting. It marks the start of the qualifying period for Canadian Championship hopefuls and provides an opportunity for athletes from northern Ontario—and across the province—to launch their competitive season.

VENUE INFORMATION

The Norsemen and Valkyries Weightlifting Club will host the competition at the North Bay YMCA, located off Chippewa Street. Nestled in a wooded area of North Bay, the YMCA’s large capacity makes it an ideal setting for a weightlifting meet. The main competition will take place in the J.S. Redpath Gymnasium, with warm-ups held in the Norsemen and Valkyries training facility. For refreshments, the Wee Café is located at the YMCA’s front entrance, offering coffee, tea, sandwiches, and baked goods.
