Elite Competitions have Qualifying Standards that must be achieved in order to be eligible to enter and compete.
**NEW DATE** The 2019 Ontario Championships will take place the first weekend of November beginning in the 2019/2020 season. The standards must be achieved at a sanctioned competition** between June 1, 2019 and October 6, 2019, the Sunday 4 weeks prior to the 2019 Ontario Championships. Note: for Closed Club, Inter-Club and OWA Club Challnge Competitions, 3 accredited OWA Technical Officials must be used in the position of Referees in order to qualify for the Ontario Championships.
Junior competitors can appeal for acceptance to participate as promising junior entries to the Provincial Championships if they have a total that is within 5kg of the set standard.
The 2019 Ontario Youth/Junior Championships will take place the first weekend of December and are an Elite Competition because they are a provincial championship, but they do not have qualifying standards to enter.
The 2020 WinterLift will take place the first weekend of February. Qualifying standards must be achieved at a sanctioned competition** between September 1, 2019 and January 5, 2020, the Sunday 4 weeks prior to the competition. Note: for Closed Club, Inter-Club and OWA Club Challenge Competitions, 2 accredited OWA Technical Officials must be used in the position of Referees in order to qualify for WinterLift.
The 2020 Ontario Classic will take place the last weekend of March. Qualifying standards must be achieved at a sanctioned competition** between November 1, 2019 and March 1, 2020, the Sunday 4 weeks prior to the competition. Note: for Closed Club, Inter-Club and OWA Club Challenge Competitions, 2 accredited OWA Technical Officials must be used in the position of Referees in order to qualify for the Ontario Classic.
The 2020 Canadian Senior Championships standards (see below) must be achieved at a sanctioned Elite* competition between October 1, 2019 and March 30, 2020. In order to be eligible to represent Ontario at the 2020 Canadian Senior Championships, you must compete at the 2019 Ontario Championships, even if you have achieved the qualifying standard at a different subject-to-doping-control competition.
In addition to athletes who have qualified by reaching the standards, each provincial association has the privilege of bringing 4 more athletes (2 men, and 2 women), who did not achieve these standards but who must be 24 years of age or younger.
Note: Non-qualified athletes may not compete more than two times at the Canadian National Championships. Athletes must achieve the standards to compete at the Canadian National Championships after two years as a non-qualified athlete.

The 2020 Canadian Junior Championships The CWFHC implemented Minimum Thresholds of Performance (*MTP) (see below) for the Canadian Junior Championships. In order to be eligible, athletes must have achieved a total meeting the MTP in a competition sanctioned by the OWA or at a higher-calibre competition from July 6, 2019 to December 8, 2019 inclusive. In order to be eligible to represent Ontario at the 2020 Canadian Junior Championships, you must compete at the 2019 Ontario Youth/Junior Championships in addition to meeting additional requirements as outlined in the OWA Selection Policy for Provincial Teams.
NOTE: the CWFHC has increased the MTP for the 2020 Canadian Junior Championships. Please see the MTP standards in the table below or click the following link for the full Competition Regulations.
The 2020 Ontario Games Weightlifting will be part of the 2020 Ontario Winter Games, taking place Thursday, February 27, 2020 to March 1, 2020. Weightlifting will be taking place Friday, February 28, 2020. The top 5 Ontario Youth males (ages 13 - 17 in 2020) per Games category by bodyweight Sinclair and top 6 Ontario Youth females (ages 13 - 17 in 2020) per Games category by bodyweight Sinclair will be invited to compete. The Games bodyweight categories will be: male: 61, 73, 73+ kg, and female: 59, 59+ kg). Qualification period begins July 1st, 2019 and ends December 8th, 2019. To be eligible, you must compete in at least two competitions between July 1st, 2019 plus the 2019 Ontario Youth/Junior Championships. Up to 6 coaches will be invited based on athlete rankings and must be at minimum NCCP Competition Introduction Certified. The 2020 Ontario Winter Games will be used in the selection process for the 2020 Junior Training Camp as a required competition for Youth athletes in order to be considered for the Training Camp.
*Elite Competition: Any OWA-sanctioned competition that requires achieving a qualifying standard to enter, the Junior Ontario Championships, and any out-of-province, national or international competition. The 20 kilo rule is in effect for any OWA Elite Competition with qualifying standards to enter.
**In order to use a total achieved at an out-of-province competition, please note that the competition MUST appear either on the CWFHC calendar or the IWF calendar to be eligible.
